General Symptoms of Special Learning Disability

  • There may be a delay in speech.

  • In words with close syllables, the sounds are mixed. (Like “this” instead of “water”)

  • Failure to tie shoes.

  • Right-left mixes.

  • Both hands are used while doing a job, there is no clear choice about the hand to be used.

  • Difficulty is experienced in learning letters and sounds in the alphabet.

  • The concepts of time and direction are confused.

During the school period:

  • Reading is learned late and difficult.

  • It reads slowly and incorrectly.

  • Writing disorders are very common.

  • Difficulty in math.

  • Inability to learn the multiplication table is seen.

  • Spelling and punctuation errors are made.

  • d and b, p and b, etc. letters are mixed.

  • There is a problem with reading comprehension.

  • Letters are often confused when reading (“vineyard” instead of “mountain”, “shawl” instead of “raft”).

  • The order of the letters is mixed (instead of "girl", "zik" or "izk", etc.).

  • Similar words are confused with each other (“chain” instead of “fig”, “what” instead of “en”, etc.).

  • Writing in reverse with mirror image.

  • Some words are misspelled, syllables are skipped, syllables are read and written backwards.

  • During reading aloud, the emphases are bumpy and punctuation marks are not visible.

  • Phonological problems can be seen.

  • The page is used incorrectly and irregularly, it is difficult to write between the lines.

  • Words are written very spaced apart or very adjacent to each other.

  • It is difficult to write letters consisting of round and straight lines.

  • There is excessive disorder.

  • Distraction or early forgetting may occur.

  • It is written late and slow.

  • Figures, symbols and signs are perceived and written in reverse. (like using "x" instead of "+")

  • There is a lack of self-confidence.

  • Problem-solving skills may be less developed.

  • The failure rate in written exams is higher than in oral exams.

  • Difficulty in using, comprehending and saying time.

  • Difficulty is experienced in bringing the end of the sentences formed, generally short sentences are formed.

  • They can be extremely mobile or, on the contrary, very stationary.

  • They have trouble with problems that require more than one operation.

  • Difficulty in perceiving abstract concepts.

  • Difficulty in organizing, synthesizing and analyzing.

  • There is a compatibility problem.

  • There is slowness in visual and auditory perception.

  • Motor coordination problems are experienced.
